Signs, Signs

At a norwegian farmer's fair a company was
demonstrating some kind of carving tool,
and this company obviously did not want
their men to receive fringe benefits :-)

Skywatch Friday, Himmelsk and Ein stück himmel

Last weekend I witnessed something utterly amazing, something that's right up there next to, or even above, the Aurora Borealis. They are Nacreous clouds, better known as Mother-of-Pearl clouds. They are rare, and once seen are never forgotten. I was returning from an early visit to Bergen, and was on my way to the ferry at Halhjem just as the sun was rising. This phenomenon lasted for 1,5 hours, and I got lots of photos. What a way it was to start the day!

Norsk tekst under bildene.

Signs, Signs

During one of my visits to Cannes, France, the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès was hosting an advertising conference, and their theme was a statement that all of us should keep in mind!

Visit  Lesley for more Signs.

Guest Heart Thursday

As I passed by my parked boots in the hallway,
I noticed the big long heart
formed by the zippered opening.

I then remembered another shot of the same boots, on my feet,
together forming a (kind of) heart.

I see three hearts here, in the middle of the picture.
A big sunlit one in the back, then a small darker one,
and then a partial one, lit on the left side,
darker on the tight.
The little one is cradled between the other two.

Signs, Signs

A couple of shots from a small café somewhere
north of Sydney on the east coast of Australia.

This has to be the most unusual Special I have ever come across.
(Sorry about the slight blur,
I was trying to take the shot quickly and discretely.)

Personally I prefer to order first and then pay,
so I know what I'm paying for and how much!

Sunday Bridges and Our World Tuesday

I live on an island on the west coast of Norway. In order to get anywhere we depend on bridges, tunnels and ferries. Until 2001 our only option for getting off the island at all was the ferry.

Then in April 2001 a triangular traffic system of 2 big bridges (and 1 smaller), and a sub sea tunnel, was opened, and we could almost stop living by ferry schedules.

We can get off our island ferry free now, and even continue across the country to Oslo, but to continue along the coast north to Bergen or south to Stavanger, there are still half hour ferry rides to be caught.

Please click on the photos for a better view.

Skywatch Friday and Himmelsk

Sunsets have been scarce here lately, well, the visible ones anyway. The days are just grey, and then it gets dark. So I looked back to my wonderful month in Australia, where blue skies were ample.

A pair of australian galahs curiously looking down on our picnic in Centennial Park near Sydney. These were unusually white in color, and there was a big flock of them.

Signs, Signs

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas,
and that the new year has treated you well so far!

The sign says "Fire Station". It's from a small village in northern Norway.

I think I would be kind of worried if I lived in a place where this was the fire station. On the other hand, it doesn't look like they get called out a lot, so maybe they don't have many fires. Or, the final option, they just don't care any more.
