Mellow Yellow Monday #138, Macro Monday, PicStory and Camera Critters

This is the stuff that nightmares are made of!

A spider, about 1,5 cm, has taken up residence in a web that covers the whole deck door window. I guess I really should brush it away, and clean the window, but the days went by last week, and I never got around to it. So on Friday I noticed that she (I kind of assume it's a she) had caught and cocooned a wasp, and was fiddling around with it.

I kept checking on her progress,
and at first she seemed to go for the jugular.

A little later she had turned him (I assume the wasp is a he) around,
and had sunk her fangs into his side.
She spent the whole day feeding on him.
Sucking him dry.
Nightmares, any-one?

Funny Inger -- that one should have come with a warning, especially since I'm reading blogs at a quarter of 11 (p.m.) Actually, I'm not squeamish about watching nature at work and I'd probably have left the web there too because it is interesting to watch. (And as long as it was OUTSIDE. I draw the line at bugs indoors.)

Great macros of this pretty girl. I love the detail of her web in the second shot. I think they are fascinating.

Hi there - great shots! Spiders are a bit of a love/hate thing really. Coming from the UK to Australia I was just a bit shocked at the sheer size of some of the ones we have here!

But being able to watch a large spider eat a wasp from the safety of inside the window is a win win situation!

Cheers Stewart M - Australia
