I photographed this weasel in September, in the Lofoten islands.

He was probably used to hikers because he didn't seem to mind us. 

He played around with a friend, and even posed to have his picture taken.

From the tiny abandoned norwegian fishing village Nyksund, in the Vesterålen coastal area, on an extremely windless day in August.

The sea houses have now been turned into art galleries, restaurants and concert venues for music festivals. Many of the houses are in use as summer houses and rentals, and some house artists who live and work there.

The bold colors are typical of the northern parts of Norway.

Skywatch Friday, Himmelsk

A Hong Kong high rise, reflecting the bright sun.

I was sitting on top of one of those Hop-on Hop-of busses, 

soaking in Hong Kong, in blazing 34C/93F.

I couldn't sit downstairs, inside, in air conditioning, 

with all the sensible people.

I had to take pictures!

The small norwegian mining town Røros has so many quaint and beautiful old houses, But this one really stood out as one of the most inviting ones, with a heart on the door and many on the doormat.

The Svartisen glacier is melting and moving backwards,

but a heart shaped patch of ice remains in the pot 

that has been ground out by the ice

From a grocery store in Sydney, I think it was a Coles. 

Takeaway cheese? As opposed to eat in? 

"I'll have half a kilo of camembert, and I'll just eat it here!"

(Ok, so in reality it was a takeaway counter 

and a cheese counter next to each other. 

But you have to agree that, like this, it looks funny! :-)

Watery Wednesday #158, Outdoor Wednesday, Nature Footstep Water

Slettnes Lighthouse, located just north of Gamvik on the Nordkinn peninsula in the Finnmark region of Norway. This is the world's northernmost mainland lighthouse. It's very nearly on top of the world, past 71° north. The ocean, which was remarkably calm that day, is the Barents Sea. Keep going due north, and you would hit the Svalbard islands, and eventually the north pole.

The area is very bare, and normally has very harsh weather conditions. 

And yes, that's a reindeer on the right hand side :-)

I have posted northern lights, Aurora Borealis, before. But every time I see them, which is not very often as far south as we are, I am totally in awe of what nature can come up with. So here it is again, from September 27, my first sighting this season. It went on for hours, changing between cloudy and clear skies, and in between I got some lucky shots. 

Nordlys er ingen dagligdags hendelse på Bømlo, men av og til er vi heldige, og når det skjer er jeg like imponert hver gang. Natt til 27. September var første gang denne sesongen. Det vekslet mellom skyet og klarvær, men heldigvis var det mildt og godt, så det gikk fint å stå ute å vente.

Signs, Signs

I spotted this sign in the tiny village Henningsvær in the Lofoten part of northern Norway, in mid August. During the summer months, this place is absolutely crawling with tourists, and many will park anywhere without consideration to the locals. This local obviously got fed up, but I'm glad they added the smiley face; it kind of takes the edge off and adds some humor to the frustration :-) 

And anyway, there was a large parking lot for tourists, with spaces for cars, camper vans and busses only a few hundred meters from this spot.
